The Natal Polo Champs 2019 was held at the Karkloof Polo Club from 28 to 30 June this year. It was an unforgettable event, with 30 teams entered and lots of excitement around new players both young and old as well as wonderful prize sponsors.
The weekend started off with a cocktail party on the Friday night with canapés and drinks. The kids played their first game against one another much to the parents and spectators delight, with fun background music, a mobile gin bar set up by the Hot Box and lots of laughs. The Saturday showcased some fast 8 goal polo, the sponsors were egging their teams on for the win and the Benson field hosted some wonderful pop up market stalls with polo gear, jewellery, ladies clothing and shoes from Fairmay Polo and Stella Rose. Our main sponsors, Windfall Wine Estate, a boutique wine estate in Robertson, hosted a very sophisticated wine tasting in the club house and Steve’s Bistro provided some delicious hearty curries. The dance floor was festive with both young and old and everyone enjoyed themselves late into the night.
Sunday saw the final of the A section being contested between Ardmore Ceramics and Windfall Wine, Windfall Wine came out victors, whilst Kego were the winners of the plate final earlier in the day.
Farfield hosted the 5 and 4 goal sections, whilst the C and D sections were played on the Churchfield. Families and love ones cheered for their teams and enjoyed a beautiful weekend of winter sunshine and fast horses.
The highlight of the weekend was Storm Storah Photography, she managed to capture all the special moments both on and off the field. Storm did an incredible job in showcasing through her work, just what polo encompasses. It is a family sport, both fathers, sons and daughters, husbands and wives play together, brothers and sisters you name it. The winning A section team contained 2 brothers and the winning D section team was a husband and wife combination. The kids games consisted of 2 teams made of father and sons playing in one team.
